Resisting Bodies
Hannah Ma / Samir Calixto with the Ensemble Of Curious Nature
The act of rebellion begins in the depths of being.
Two choreographers are working on the same theme from their different perspectives and backgrounds.
Hannah Ma’s choreography “Who Brings the Bird” regards the body as a (political) landscape defined by vulnerability and the need for tenderness. In the face of ecological, social and spiritual crises, Hannah Ma invokes the collective as a creative force to create moments of freedom in togetherness.
To the multi-layered composition “The Bird Of A Thousand Voices” by Armenian composer Tigran Hamasyan, the dancers weave topography of movement, their individual bodies displaying their multifaceted energies. Can the group create a sound to which everyone can relate?
It is the second time Choreographer Samir Calixto is working with the dancers of Of Curious Nature. Together they embark on a search for inherent resilience. Especially in times of need, this human ability can manifest itself both mentally and physically in perseverance, tenacity or rebellion.
“Fulgence” evolves from an edgy reality into an act of liberation. Through radiating explosions of energy and outbursts of euphoria, the ensemble seeks to overcome our inner and outer darkness. The dancers‘ feverish bodies move in an act of resistance and illuminate the shadows of our existence with their inner radiance.
