Hannah Ma

The focus of choreographer Hannah Ma, who began her career as a classical dancer, lies in contemporary rituals and the translation of archaic roots within our society. She explores choreographic research on swarm processes that constitute our collective consciousness and intelligence. Her work centers on the body as a witness and landscape of political change in a world shaped by migration, as well as the search for identity and belonging. Hannah Ma collaborates with artists from around the world. She is interested in nonverbal communication and in finding ways to overcome social and cultural habits, as well as prejudices toward what is considered “foreign” and “unknown.” In her work, she is dedicated to a non-violent aesthetic.
